According to a new film documenting the aging experience of five trans/genderqueer elders, our current generation of trans-grandparents were born between 1930-1960. And they want to share their stories.
Growing Old Gracefully: The Transgender Experience is an independent film startup by producers Kandis Hutcherson and Joe Ippolito, one of the organizers of the Philly Trans Health Conference and the Gender Reel festival.
The two hope to “highlight the trials and tribulations many transgender people face when growing older.”
“We have plans to enter the film in both national and international film festivals in order spread the word about this issue,” the duo writes on their fundraising site. “We also hope to use the film to educate all kinds of people, including health-care professionals and secondary and higher education institutions.”
The film is a winner of the Leeway Foundation Arts and Change grant and is scheduled for completion by September 2012. Click here to learn more about the project.
