“It’s interesting to be like this,” said Andrej Pejic in a new interview with Associated Press, regarding confusion around his gender identity. As a model, Pejic is a rising icon. Most notably, he closed Jean Paul Gaultier’s Spring/Summer 2011 haute couture show in bridal gear.

And he doesn’t identify as a transgender person, despite so many media claims to the contrary. Earlier this year, Pejic’s responded to his first job modeling lingerie for the Dutch chain Hema, by tweeting:

“To me, it doesn’t really matter. I don’t really have that sort of strong gender identity — I identify as what I am,” Pejic said.

Oh the wonderful world of gender variance in fashion! We love you so much.
