Dossie Easton, who has dedicated herself to “feminist, polyamorous, BDSM, spiritual, gender-diverse, and LGBTQ individuals and communities,” co-wrote this book with cohort and sex partner, Janet W. Hardy. This is a wonderful work of nonfiction that trails its finger along leather culture and sacred-sex practices. The book is hugely sex and gender-positive, funny and transcendent. The authors document their own journeys into the realm ecstatic kink: one author journeys Eastern and pagan spiritual paths while the other struggles to accept bliss. They share their triumphs, too: when conceptual frameworks cease to matter and bodies and spirits combine in radical ecstasy. For more beginner how-to’s check out Easton’s New Bottoming and New Topping books.

Renowned transgender author and activist, Patrick Califia, wrote No Mercy as a collection of short fiction that combines pornography, science fiction, romance, fantasy, fairy tale, and horror into a potent cocktail for queer grown-ups “who have been very, very bad and aren’t one bit sorry,” according to the book jacket. No Mercy is leather-flavored fiction without a safeword-smart, challenging, intellectual, funny, transgressive, and hot. It’s a one-handed read.

Written by acclaimed sex educator, Barbara Carrellas–who happens to be the long-time partner of transgender activist and author Kate Bornstein–Urban Tantra is a mix of erotic how-to and pleasure-centered spiritual wisdom. With more than one hundred easy-to-follow techniques for expanded orgasmic states and solo and partner play (as well as more adventurous practices). A very practical, helpful read. And extremely trans-positive.

raven kaldera, pagan bdsm, genderqueer bdsm, intersex bdsm

This is not an introductory text on paganism, nor a BDSM how-to guide. Instead, intersex activist and leatherman champion, Raven Kaldera, skirts around traditional definitions of BDSM in favor of providing in-debth personal experience with a pagan spiritual context. Contributors discuss their perspectives on reasons for engaging in pagan BDSM, their own experiences, and rituals incorporating pagan spirituality and pain play and restraint
