The Gender Binary Quiz
A team of researchers from the Illinois Institute of Technology and Bar-Ilan University in Israel have created an algorithm to supposedly guess a person’s gender (using only binary) based on written content. It’s called the Gender Guesser and it weighs word frequencies and parts of speech that are believed could estimate the gender of an author. The guesser is only calibrated to operate on American English. And can only be held to 60-70 percent accuracy. The website suggests “not to be offended if it says you write like a girl.”
Despite disagreeing with the gender-rigidity of the guesser, we gave it a shot today and found the results somewhat amusing. If you’re in the mood to try it, there’s no sign up and it only takes a second. Click here . Maybe we’ll alter their results with our gender-fabulousness.
